An interview with Lauren D'Silva

How did you first become interested in crystals?

I have always loved crystals. My Mother had a huge Reader's Digest Atlas and as a small child I would spend hours at a time looking at the double page spread of Gems of the World. In my career as a secondary school teacher I sensed I needed to explore complementary therapies. I tried aromatherapy massage at night school, but although I loved the essential oils it didn't feel like the right path for me. I enjoyed Space Clearing and Feng Shui and found them very helpful. They opened my mind to the idea of energy work. My Mother's yoga teacher was training as a Crystal Therapist and I was invited to be a case study. I agreed, rather sceptical that crystals would be able to do anything therapeutic, but it was such a turning point. I had the most profound release of years of pent up emotions within that very first treatment and I felt the energy moving around my body. Amazing!

How have crystals helped in your own life?

From that first treatment on the crystals have been my constant companions. They played an important role within an intense period of spiritual transformation which came about when I met my husband Steve. So much past life clearing was needed, so many obstacles had to be overcome. The crystals carried me through those turbulent times and gave me a sense of stability when it seemed everything in my life was being questioned and shaken up.

What is your speciality within the field of Crystal Healing?

I love to help my clients recognise their own brilliance which has always been there under layers of conditioning. By challenging other people's judgements, by lifting self-imposed restrictions and by reclaiming power, from this and other lifetimes, my clients heal from old wounds and begin to awaken to their true potential and their ability to manifest their hearts' desires.

If you could only choose 5 crystals which would they be and why?

I wouldn't be without a large clear quartz point. Quartz is just so versatile and I love the clarity it can bring. If I could only have one crystal this would be my choice. My second choice would be labradorite. This is such a magical stone. Steve and I watched in awe as his labradorite wand changed its appearance daily through the most intense healing of our Ancient Egyptian lives. It began to sparkle, the blue light shone brighter and the tip became almost transparent. Lapis Lazuli connects me straight back to Ancient Egypt. I love the depth of the blue and the sparkling pyrites. It evokes a midnight sky full of stars. Garnet is my birthstone and I've always enjoyed wearing it. I find it strengthening and supportive of my energy. It is my go to stone for endurance. Finally I love the whole beryl family, but if I had to pick one it would be emerald for its emanation of the Green Ray and its heart centred healing. I chose an emerald for the logo of Touchstones School of Crystal Therapy.

What would be your advice for someone just starting out as a Crystal Therapist?

Invest in a properly accredited course with an experienced teacher. Get to know your crystals, spend time attuning to them. Crystals are your healing allies and your relationship with them will develop. Allow your skill as a healer to evolve. Stick with it. Success doesn't usually come overnight! All these years on I am still learning about crystals and growing as a healer. I love that!

Where can readers find out more about your work?

My book Crystals was published in 2020 as part of the Godsfield Companion series. It's a great place to start if you have crystals and don't know what to do with them.

Light behind the Angels is my account of the spiritual transformation I went through. Although I wrote it primarily to record the incredible things that happened during that time of intense spiritual awakening I have had lots of people comment about how useful they have found it as they've walked their own path.
